Joliet, IL – Traffic in Joliet slowed Wednesday afternoon after a semi-truck struck a railroad bridge along Route 53 (South Chicago Street), just north of Doris Avenue, according to the Joliet Police Department.
Officers responded to the scene around midday November 12, where the truck had become lodged beneath the bridge. The roadway remained passable but congested while crews worked to clear the area and assess the bridge for damage.
According to police, all lanes were reopened by approximately 1:15 p.m. The incident caused temporary delays for commuters traveling through the Route 53 corridor, a key route connecting central Joliet with I-80 and nearby industrial areas.
Authorities urged drivers earlier in the day to seek alternate routes due to the congestion. No injuries were reported, and police said further details would be provided if additional information becomes available.
Motorists are reminded to use caution and allow extra travel time during similar incidents, especially near low-clearance bridges and major freight corridors.
