Joliet, IL – Drivers on Interstate 80 should prepare for overnight lane reductions this week as the Illinois Department of Transportation (IDOT) continues its work zone stage changes near Houbolt and River Roads.

According to IDOT and I-80 Will, westbound I-80 will be reduced to a single lane beginning Wednesday, Dec. 17, from west of Houbolt Road to River Road. Work will begin at 7 p.m., with lanes shifting left onto newly paved sections and reopening by 6 a.m. Thursday, Dec. 18.

A second overnight closure will follow on Friday, Dec. 19, affecting eastbound I-80. Starting at 8 p.m., eastbound lanes will be reduced to one lane from River Road to east of Houbolt Road, with traffic also shifting left onto new pavement. All lanes are expected to reopen by 10 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 20.

These temporary changes are part of the ongoing I-80 Will County reconstruction and bridge improvement project, which aims to improve safety and traffic flow across one of Illinois’ busiest corridors. Drivers are urged to plan extra travel time, stay alert for work crews, and follow posted detours and signage.
