Will County, IL – The Will County Sheriff’s Office is reminding drivers to stay alert on rural roads as harvest season begins across the region. Motorists can expect to see more slow-moving tractors and combines traveling between fields this week.
According to a post from the Sheriff’s Office, farmers are moving large equipment across local routes as they bring in crops for the fall season. Drivers are urged to slow down when approaching farm vehicles, keep a safe following distance, and pass only when it is legal and clear to do so.
Deputies noted that large farm machinery often makes wide turns and travels at slower speeds than typical traffic. Motorists should also watch for flashing amber lights and “Slow-Moving Vehicle” signs on equipment during early morning and evening hours when visibility can be reduced.
“Our farmers work hard to feed our communities—let’s work together to keep everyone safe this harvest season,” the department said in its public message.
Authorities encourage all drivers in Will County and surrounding areas to remain patient and alert through October as harvest traffic continues.
