Plainfield Township, IL – A patrol led to a dramatic incident late Friday night in Plainfield Township as Will County Sheriff’s deputies detained five juveniles following a chase involving a stolen vehicle.

According to the Will County Sheriff’s Office, deputies spotted a stolen vehicle out of Joliet near Essington Road and Route 126 at approximately 11:30 p.m. on Friday. When deputies attempted a traffic stop, the suspects allegedly fled, crashing the vehicle into a marked Sheriff’s patrol car. Authorities report that the deputy and his K9 partner inside the patrol vehicle were unharmed during the attempted escape.

The stolen vehicle was allegedly occupied by five juveniles. Three reportedly fled on foot, but the deputy whose vehicle was struck pursued and apprehended the alleged driver, a 15-year-old, after a short chase. With the assistance of a Sheriff’s Department drone, law enforcement quickly established a perimeter and located the two remaining juveniles in a nearby wooded area.

The alleged 15-year-old driver faces several charges, including possession of a stolen motor vehicle, resisting arrest, criminal damage to government property, operating a vehicle without insurance, and failure to yield to an emergency vehicle. Additional charges include no valid driver’s license, failure to reduce speed to avoid an accident, and leaving the scene of an accident, according to the Sheriff’s Office.
