New Lenox, IL – Three suspects were arrested Saturday morning following an armed robbery at the Jewel-Osco on Nelson Road, where one suspect brandished a handgun at a customer during their escape.
According to the New Lenox Police Department, officers responded to a retail theft call at approximately 6:10 a.m. The suspects, three male Hispanics, were seen fleeing on bicycles toward Old Plank Trail. Officers quickly located and pursued them on foot towards Providence Catholic High School, apprehending all three.
A loaded 9mm handgun, a high-capacity drum magazine, the stolen alcohol, and the bicycles were recovered. The suspects were positively identified by a witness and charged with armed robbery, burglary, retail theft, and criminal damage to property. One juvenile faces additional charges of unlawful use of a weapon, armed violence, and aggravated assault.
Oscar Leon-Baizan, 20, of Joliet, is also charged with contributing to the delinquency of a minor. Leon-Baizan is detained at the Will County Adult Detention Facility, while the juveniles are at River Valley Juvenile Detention Center.
