Crete Township, IL – From scenic dog walks to bird watching and a full day of self-care, the Forest Preserve District of Will County is offering a variety of free, outdoor programs this week to help residents reconnect with nature as the season blossoms.

According to the Forest Preserve District, the week kicks off with the Pups and Plants Promenade from 6 to 7:30 p.m. on Wednesday at Plum Valley Preserve in Crete Township. Participants and their leashed dogs can enjoy a slow-paced stroll while learning about local spring flora and how sensory exploration benefits canine companions. The hike will cover under 2 miles of flat trail and is open to dog owners aged 18 or older. Registration closes Monday.

Nature enthusiasts can also drop by the Lake Renwick Migratory Bird Viewing event held every Saturday through August 9 from 8 a.m. to noon. At Lake Renwick Heron Rookery Nature Preserve, visitors may spot herons, egrets, cormorants, and even bald eagles during their nesting season. Volunteers and staff will be present at the viewing areas to provide guidance. Attendees are encouraged to bring binoculars or scopes. No registration is required.

Capping off the week is Wellness Day on Saturday, May 31 from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Messenger Woods Nature Preserve. Designed to promote mindfulness and relaxation, the program includes yoga, guided hiking, plant pot painting, and a catered outdoor lunch. Local wellness vendors will also be on-site. The event, suitable for individuals aged 12 and older, is free but requires registration by Tuesday.
