Crete Township, IL – A man is dead and a woman remains in critical condition after a shooting Tuesday night in Crete Township.

According to the Will County Sheriff’s Office, deputies were dispatched around 9:15 p.m. to the 2300 block of East Exchange Street for reports of gunfire. When they arrived, deputies found a black sedan riddled with bullet holes and shattered windows. Investigators said they recovered about 40 shell casings at the scene.

Inside the vehicle, deputies located two individuals with multiple gunshot wounds. Authorities said the female driver was shot in the head and hand, while the male passenger suffered wounds to the hip and buttock. Deputies provided emergency aid until paramedics transported both victims to a local hospital.

The Sheriff’s Office confirmed that the male passenger later died from his injuries. The female driver remains hospitalized in critical condition.

Sheriff Mike Kelley thanked the Crete Police Department and the Crete Township Fire Protection District for their rapid assistance during the response.
