Crete Township, IL – A 23-year-old man is dead and a woman remains in critical condition after a shooting late Tuesday night in Crete Township, according to the Will County Sheriff’s Office.

The victim has been identified as Angel Lopez-Torres, who died shortly after arriving at a local hospital. Authorities said the female victim, who sustained a gunshot wound to the head, is hospitalized in critical but stable condition.

According to the Sheriff’s Office, deputies responded around 9:15 p.m. Tuesday to the 2300 block of East Exchange Street following reports of gunfire. On arrival, deputies found a black sedan with multiple bullet holes and shattered windows. A preliminary search of the scene uncovered roughly 40 shell casings.

Inside the vehicle, deputies found two victims suffering from gunshot wounds. The woman had been shot in the head and hand, while Lopez-Torres was struck in the hip and buttock. Emergency responders performed lifesaving measures before transporting both individuals to the hospital.

Authorities say the investigation remains ongoing with multiple leads being pursued. No suspects have been named at this time. Sheriff Mike Kelley thanked the Crete Police Department and Crete Township Fire Protection District for their assistance at the scene.
