Wilmington, IL – A pair of alleged vehicle burglary attempts in the early hours of Sunday morning has Wilmington police asking local residents to check home surveillance footage for potential leads.
According to the Wilmington Police Department, officers responded at approximately 1:45 a.m. to the 200 block of South East Street following a report of an attempted burglary to a motor vehicle. The incident was reportedly caught on a resident’s security cameras and shared with officers. Authorities say a second, related burglary occurred around 3:00 a.m., when suspects allegedly gained access to a vehicle on the same property.
The department released images from surveillance footage showing two individuals believed to be male. One was reportedly wearing a light-colored hoodie with dark pants, while the other appeared to be dressed in a dark-colored hoodie and light pants.
Officers are urging residents in the area to review security cameras for footage taken between 1:00 and 4:00 a.m. Sunday, in hopes of identifying the suspects or uncovering additional incidents. Police are also encouraging vehicle owners to check if their cars may have been entered overnight.
