Will County, IL Mourns Passing of Sheriff’s Office PIO, Radio Personality Kevin “Kollins” Hedemark

Will County, IL – The Will County Sheriff’s Office announced with deep sadness the passing of Kevin “Kollins” Hedemark, who served as the department’s Public Information Officer (PIO) and a lieutenant with the Sheriff’s Auxiliary Unit.

According to the Sheriff’s Office, Hedemark was deeply devoted to public service, communication, and community engagement. Known for his professionalism, kindness, and leadership, he played a vital role in strengthening the bond between the department and Will County residents.

Hedemark’s career spanned more than 35 years in broadcasting and public relations. A graduate of Morningside University in Sioux City, Iowa, he earned a Bachelor of Science in Mass Communications and worked for over a decade as a local radio personality on 1340 WJOL and Star 96.7.

Joining the Will County Sheriff’s Auxiliary Unit in 2006, Hedemark rose through the ranks, earning several awards, including Auxiliary Supervisor of the Year (2017) and the President’s Lifetime Achievement Award (2024) for more than 4,000 hours of volunteer service.

The Sheriff’s Office extended condolences to Hedemark’s family, friends, and colleagues, calling his passing “a tremendous loss.” Memorial details will be announced once available.
