Wilmington, IL – A Wilmington woman has been arrested following a months-long investigation into a child’s drowning earlier this year in the Deer Ridge Subdivision, according to police.

The Wilmington Police Department reported that on May 15, 2025, officers responded to a call of an unresponsive child who had fallen into a pool. Despite life-saving efforts at the scene and at St. Joseph’s Medical Center, the child died from injuries sustained in the incident.

According to Tuesday’s police statement, an arrest warrant was issued for Jolene M. Trost of Wilmington on four counts of endangering the life or health of a child. Trost was taken into custody at her home and transported to the Will County Adult Detention Facility, where she will remain in custody until released by a judge.

Police noted that the arrest followed an “extensive investigation” and thanked the Braidwood Police and Fire Departments along with the Will County Child Advocacy Center for their assistance in the case.

The Wilmington Police Department said no further details would be released while the case remains under judicial review.
