Will County, IL – A toddler abducted from Wesley Township on Sunday morning was safely located hours later following a coordinated multi-agency search, according to the Will County Sheriff’s Office.
Deputies were dispatched around 10:25 a.m. to the 19500 block of West Goodwin Road for a report of domestic battery and child abduction. According to investigators, 32-year-old Carl E. Ellis allegedly assaulted the child’s mother before leaving with their toddler.
Deputies learned Ellis was under court-ordered electronic monitoring but had removed his ankle monitor, which was later recovered in a nearby field. Authorities requested an AMBER Alert, but state officials denied the request.
Through the FLOCK camera system, detectives tracked the suspect’s vehicle to Kankakee County, where Kankakee County Sheriff’s deputies located the car and arrested Ellis without incident about four hours later. The toddler was found inside the vehicle unharmed.
Sheriff Mike Kelley thanked assisting agencies—including the Wilmington, Bourbonnais, and Kankakee Police Departments, Livingston and Kankakee County Sheriff’s Offices, and the FBI—for helping bring the case to a swift and safe resolution.
Ellis was transported to the Will County Adult Detention Facility and initially charged with aggravated domestic battery. Additional charges are pending as the investigation continues.
