Lockport, IL – A Lockport home was severely damaged Tuesday afternoon after a garage fire spread into the attic, displacing residents and drawing a multi-departmental emergency response.
According to a press release from the Lockport Township Fire Protection District, fire crews were dispatched around 12:30 p.m. to the 500 block of Stephanie Drive after reports of a structure fire. When firefighters arrived, they found a working fire in the garage of a single-family home that had extended into the attic space.
All occupants were home at the time and managed to evacuate. One person was treated for minor injuries at the scene. Firefighters made what officials described as an “aggressive attack” to contain and extinguish the fire.
Due to the severity of the incident, the fire was elevated to a full still alarm level. Fire departments from East Joliet, Homer, Lemont, New Lenox, Northwest Homer, Plainfield, and Romeoville provided assistance, either on-site or covering other calls in the district.
Damage to the home has rendered it uninhabitable. As of Tuesday, the cause of the fire remains under investigation by Lockport Fire Investigators.
