Frankfort, IL – A 57-year-old man from Homewood was arrested Monday night after allegedly fleeing from a Will County Sheriff’s Office school resource officer at Lincoln-Way East High School, authorities said.
According to the Will County Sheriff’s Office, the incident began around 5:45 p.m. on October 14, 2025, when attendees at a volleyball game reported a man acting suspiciously on campus. When the school resource officer approached, the man reportedly ran away.
Deputies, K9 units, drones, and neighboring police agencies joined the search through a nearby subdivision, officials said. The suspect was later identified through school security footage as Eric C. Havens, 57, of Homewood, Illinois.
Around 7:45 p.m., Havens allegedly turned himself in at the Frankfort Police Department. He was taken into custody and transported to the Will County Adult Detention Facility, where he was charged with Disorderly Conduct and Resisting a Peace Officer. Additional charges may follow as the investigation continues.
The Sheriff’s Office emphasized that at no point was there an imminent threat to students, staff, or the community.
Sheriff Mike Kelley thanked the Frankfort and Mokena Police Departments, as well as Lincoln-Way East staff, for their quick cooperation. “Thanks to their teamwork, this situation was resolved safely and efficiently,” Kelley said.
