Channahon, IL – A commercial structure fire triggered an early-morning emergency response in Channahon on Friday after an activated fire alarm signaled a working blaze inside a truck service facility on West Bluff Road, according to the Channahon Fire Protection District.
Crews were dispatched around 5:47 a.m. to Love’s/Speedco Truck Service at 23865 W. Bluff Road. As fire companies approached, the first arriving officer confirmed visible fire conditions, prompting the alarm to be elevated to request mutual aid from surrounding communities.
According to officials, firefighters located the fire in the facility’s east maintenance bay. The building’s fire suppression system activated promptly, helping slow the fire’s spread and preventing further damage. Firefighters gained entry through overhead garage doors and man doors, containing the blaze by 6:31 a.m. and stopping total fire loss by 6:39 a.m.
One firefighter sustained minor injuries, was treated, and later released.
The building was unoccupied at the time, and investigators believe the cause is accidental, though the exact origin remains under review. Fire officials emphasized that the facility’s well-maintained sprinkler and alarm systems played a crucial role in containing the fire and ensuring a fast response. Despite smoke and radiant heat damage in the immediate area, no damage extended beyond the fire’s origin point.
The Village of Channahon Building Code Official assisted in securing the affected bay and outlining steps for the business to resume normal operations.
Mutual aid agencies included Minooka Fire, Troy Fire, Wilmington Fire, Coal City Fire, Joliet Fire, Lockport Fire, Elwood Fire, Morris Ambulance, Channahon Police Department, NiCor, and ComEd. The MABAS Division 15 Fire Investigations Team is leading the investigation.
Crews cleared the scene around 8:50 a.m.
