Joliet, IL – A 28-year-old man was killed Friday afternoon in Joliet after his car collided with a tractor-trailer on South Chicago Street near Schweitzer Road.

According to the Joliet Police Department, officers responded around 12:59 p.m. on September 12, 2025, to a report of a traffic crash with injuries. A preliminary investigation found that a Kenworth tractor-trailer, driven by a 54-year-old man from Cumming, Georgia, was exiting a private business in the 3400 block of South Chicago Street. Police said the truck initiated a left turn toward northbound traffic and collided with a Chevrolet Sonic traveling southbound.

The Chevrolet’s driver, a 28-year-old man from Joliet, was ejected from the vehicle during the crash. He was transported by the Joliet Fire Department to St. Joseph Medical Center, where he was later pronounced dead. The tractor-trailer driver was uninjured.

Authorities closed the roadway for several hours while Joliet Police Department traffic investigators reconstructed the crash. The Will County Coroner’s Office will determine the official cause and manner of death.
