Joliet, IL – As ghosts and goblins take to the streets this Halloween, the Will County Sheriff’s Office is reminding families to keep the night safe and spooky — but not scary.

In a public safety post shared Monday, deputies offered reminders for trick-or-treaters, drivers, and homeowners to help prevent accidents during tonight’s festivities.

For trick-or-treaters, deputies urge children to carry a flashlight or glow stick, stay with their “boo crew,” and always use sidewalks and crosswalks. Parents are encouraged to check all candy before kids enjoy their haul.

Drivers are reminded to slow down in neighborhoods and watch for children crossing unexpectedly. Homeowners are also asked to keep walkways well-lit and clear of tripping hazards while keeping porch lights on for visiting costumed guests.

“Let’s make this Halloween a spooktacularly safe night for everyone in Will County,” the post reads, adding that awareness and visibility can help prevent injuries.

Trick-or-treat hours vary by city across Will County, but officials stress that increased foot traffic is expected throughout the evening.

Stay alert, stay safe, and have a hauntingly good time — that’s the Will County Sheriff’s message for Halloween 2025.
