Joliet, IL – A 32-year-old Joliet man has been charged with attempted murder, armed violence, armed robbery, aggravated battery, and unlawful possession of a weapon by a felon after police linked him to a violent stabbing that occurred earlier this week, authorities announced Friday.

According to the Joliet Police Department, detectives identified the suspect, Jesus Simms, as the man who allegedly stabbed a 45-year-old victim multiple times near South Ottawa Street and McDonough Street in the early morning hours of November 12, 2025. The victim was rushed to St. Joseph Medical Center by Joliet Fire personnel and is recovering from serious injuries.

Police say Tactical Officers spotted Simms the following evening in the 200 block of Sheridan Street. When officers tried to stop him, he allegedly fled into a home on South Joliet Street, prompting a perimeter lockdown. After receiving consent from the homeowner, K9 officers searched the residence and found Simms hiding inside. He was taken into custody without further incident.

Simms was later treated for narcotics intoxication and released from the hospital before being booked into the Will County Adult Detention Facility. Charges were approved by the Will County State’s Attorney’s Office.

Police Chief Bill Evans praised the coordinated effort of Joliet detectives, patrol officers, and K9 teams, calling the arrest an example of “dedication, communication, and discipline.”
