Braidwood, IL – Facing persistent dry conditions and a depleted main water tower, the City of Braidwood has announced new water usage restrictions set to begin Tuesday, June 17, 2025.
The restrictions aim to reduce water consumption by regulating outdoor usage activities like lawn and garden watering, pool filling, and car washing. According to a public notice from city officials, residents will be allowed to perform these actions on alternating days based on their street address numbers.
Odd-numbered street addresses may water on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays, while even-numbered addresses are limited to Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays. The city emphasized that these efforts are intended to prevent the need for a full water ban if the dry spell continues.
According to the City of Braidwood, the decision was prompted by a prolonged lack of rainfall and the ongoing unavailability of the main water tower. Officials are urging residents to begin water conservation efforts immediately and adhere strictly to the outlined schedule.
“We appreciate everyone’s cooperation and hope this will be enough to avoid more severe restrictions,” the city said in the statement.
The city’s leadership, including Mayor Todd Lyons and City Manager Steve Gulden, are monitoring the situation closely and will issue updates as needed. Residents are advised to follow any additional guidance issued by local officials in the coming weeks.
