Crete Township, IL – Art and nature enthusiasts in Will County can explore a nationally recognized wildlife art exhibit beginning today as the Federal Duck Stamp Art Exhibit officially opens at Plum Creek Nature Center.
According to the Forest Preserve District of Will County, the free exhibit is open Wednesdays through Sundays from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. and runs through Sunday, Feb. 22, at the nature center located in Crete Township.
The traveling exhibit features the top 12 adult entries from the annual Federal Duck Stamp Art Contest, along with 55 student artworks created by children in kindergarten through 12th grade. Best of Show winners from each state are included, highlighting a wide range of artistic styles and North American waterfowl species.
Each year, artists from across the country submit original paintings and drawings of ducks to the Federal Duck Stamp Art Program. Select works are chosen to become collectible stamps, with proceeds supporting federal wetland conservation. Over the program’s 90-year history, more than $1 billion has been raised to help protect over 6 million acres of wildlife habitat, officials said.
“Birders, artists, and nature enthusiasts alike will appreciate the skill and creativity displayed through the artwork,” said Heather Van Zyl, facility supervisor at Plum Creek Nature Center. She added that several new educational elements have been added to the exhibit this year.
Visitors are encouraged to pair their trip with a walk through nearby wetlands, including Snapper Pond, a popular winter viewing area for waterfowl. The exhibit is supported in part by The Nature Foundation of Will County.
Those inspired by the display may also consider submitting their own artwork. Entries for the 2026 Federal Duck Stamp Contest will be accepted June 1 through Aug. 15.
Additional programs tied to the exhibit will be offered throughout its run. Details are available on the Forest Preserve District’s event calendar at ReconnectWithNature.org.
