Crete Township, IL – Families can get an up-close look at the world of bees this Saturday, Nov. 1, during the Forest Preserve District of Will County’s “Meet a Beekeeper” event at Plum Creek Nature Center in Crete Township.
According to the Forest Preserve District, the free program runs from 10 a.m. to noon and offers a chance to chat with local beekeeper Dale Bradley, who will explain how honeybees prepare for winter and what makes “winter bees” unique. Visitors can learn how bee colonies adapt to colder weather and see examples of real honeycombs.
The “Meet a Beekeeper” session is part of a larger week of nature-focused programming that highlights wildlife, wellness, and winter preparation. Other activities include “Hibernate, Migrate, Acclimate,” an all-ages exhibit exploring how animals survive the cold, and a “Whoooo’s Out There?” scavenger hunt at Hidden Oaks Nature Center in Bolingbrook, where families can search for owls and other nocturnal species.
Those seeking an active start to their weekend can also join the Morning Fresh Air Hike at Four Rivers Environmental Education Center in Channahon on Sunday, Nov. 2, from 8:30 to 9:45 a.m.
Registration for programs is available at ReconnectWithNature.org.
