Joliet, IL – A high-speed pursuit involving a wanted fugitive came to a halt late Thursday night after the suspect allegedly struck a Will County Sheriff’s patrol car and was taken into custody in Joliet.

According to a release from the Will County Sheriff’s Office, deputies assisted the Channahon Police Department and other agencies in an active vehicle pursuit that began around 11:35 p.m. Thursday. The chase escalated when the suspect’s vehicle allegedly rammed a Will County patrol SUV, which was occupied by a deputy, in the parking lot of a gas station on the 3000 block of Plainfield Road. Authorities report that the deputy was not injured.

The pursuit allegedly continued eastbound until the suspect’s vehicle became disabled near the intersection of 143rd Street and Interstate 355 in Homer Township. Law enforcement officials said the suspect refused repeated commands to exit the vehicle. Deputies then broke a window to safely remove and handcuff the individual, who was subsequently turned over to the custody of the Channahon Police Department.

Authorities have not released the name of the suspect or the charges at this time. The Will County Sheriff’s Office stated that any further questions or inquiries regarding the incident should be directed to the Channahon Police Department.

This pursuit follows a series of recent incidents involving high-speed chases across northern Illinois, raising concerns about officer safety and the potential risk to the public during such events.
