Monee, Illinois – A man from Indiana has been charged in connection with a January burglary at the construction site of Monee’s new Public Works building.

According to the Monee Police Department, officers responded on Jan. 24 to a report of a burglary at 5755 W. Industrial Drive, where the new municipal building was under construction. Police said multiple pieces of heavy equipment and tools were on site at the time, and several power tools were allegedly stolen.

Following an eight-month investigation, police on Wednesday arrested Derek J. Beverly, 32, of Francesville, Indiana. Beverly was charged under Illinois law with burglary, three counts of theft between $500 and $10,000, possession of stolen property, and three counts of criminal damage to property.

Authorities said Beverly was released with a pre-trial notice to appear in Will County court. Police credited the Pulaski County Sheriff’s Office in Indiana for assisting with the investigation.

All charges are allegations, and Beverly is presumed innocent unless proven guilty in a court of law.
