Central Illinois — Another round of accumulating snow is expected Monday afternoon through Monday night across central and southeast Illinois, according to the National Weather Service in Lincoln. Confidence is high that many locations will receive at least 1 inch of new snowfall, particularly north of the I-70 corridor where probabilities range from 80% to 90%.

Forecasters also note a 40% to 50% chance of totals reaching 4 inches or more, mainly near and north of I-72, including areas around Springfield, Decatur, Bloomington, and Lincoln. Snowfall south of I-70 carries lower confidence, with roughly a 50% chance of hitting 1 inch.

Unlike the wetter, heavier snow that fell over the weekend, Monday’s snowfall is expected to be drier and lighter, which may make travel impacts somewhat less severe—though slick roads remain likely during the evening commute.

Residents should monitor updated forecasts as the system approaches and be prepared for reduced visibility and slippery travel Monday evening.
