Wichita Weather Update: Thunderstorms and Temperature Drop Expected Wednesday Night Into Thursday

Wichita, KS – Thunderstorms and cooler temperatures are expected to arrive late Wednesday night and continue through Thursday, ending the recent midweek heatwave.

According to the National Weather Service in Wichita, a weak cold front will move into the area late Wednesday into Thursday, bringing a 60% chance of overnight storms Wednesday and a 50% chance of scattered showers and storms on Thursday. Highs will drop from the upper 90s on Wednesday to the low 80s by Thursday.

Residents in central Kansas, including Wichita and surrounding counties, should prepare for possible heavy rain and lightning late Wednesday night. The storms may cause localized flooding and brief power outages. Travel could be impacted on area highways such as I-135 and US-54.

Officials advise avoiding outdoor activities during storms and securing loose outdoor items. Charging devices and having a plan for sudden power interruptions is recommended. This cooldown will be short-lived, with temperatures rebounding to near 95 degrees by Friday.
