According to the National Weather Service in Wichita, scattered showers and storms will affect areas mainly in southeast Kansas from Sunday through Tuesday, with a more widespread storm threat arriving Tuesday night into Wednesday. Highs are expected to climb daily, reaching into the upper 90s by Tuesday.
Wichita could see highs between 87°F and 96°F Monday, while areas like Parsons and Independence may push 98°F by Tuesday. Central and southeast Kansas—including Pittsburg, Coffeyville, and El Dorado—will be the most impacted by the midweek storm chances. Localized heavy rain and gusty winds are possible, especially overnight Tuesday into Wednesday.
Drivers should prepare for slick roads and low visibility during downpours. Residents are encouraged to limit outdoor activity during peak heat hours, hydrate frequently, and keep an eye on updated alerts.
Storm chances will taper off late Wednesday, but more rain could develop later in the week as humidity stays high.
