Wichita, KS – Near-normal temperatures continue today and Saturday across south-central Kansas before a surge of colder air arrives for the second half of the weekend. According to the National Weather Service in Wichita, colder conditions will be most noticeable Sunday morning, when wind chills fall into the single digits across the region.

Today’s highs range from the low to upper 40s, followed by similar temperatures Saturday. Central Kansas is expected to be the coldest on Saturday, with highs mainly topping out in the upper 30s to mid-40s.

Colder conditions arrive Sunday as an Arctic air mass moves south. Forecast highs are only expected to reach the mid-20s to low 30s, with wind chills ranging from 0°F to 7°F during the morning hours. The National Weather Service advises residents to prepare for a noticeably colder day, particularly during early morning travel and outdoor activities.

Temperatures rebound quickly early next week. Highs on Monday are forecast in the mid-40s to near 50, while Tuesday brings a more significant warmup with temperatures climbing into the mid-50s to low 60s area-wide. Skies remain mostly dry through the period, with no major storm systems expected.

The rapid warmup early next week follows several days of much colder conditions across the central Plains, but forecasters note that temperatures will trend back above normal by Tuesday.

Residents are encouraged to stay aware of changing conditions, especially Sunday when wind chills will be at their lowest.
