Wichita, Kansas – Fog and thunderstorms are expected to disrupt central and southeastern Kansas today, with visibility dropping to near one mile in some areas this morning. According to the National Weather Service (NWS), small thunderstorms could bring brief heavy rain and isolated hail to these regions, making travel hazardous.

Areas along and south of I-135, including Wichita, will experience thunderstorms this morning. A slight chance for severe weather exists later in the day, particularly for a few isolated storms west of the state’s central region. These storms may produce small hail and damaging winds. Thunderstorms will continue overnight, gradually increasing in intensity through Monday night, with a heightened risk of large hail and heavy rain.

From Monday through Wednesday, more severe thunderstorms are expected. The primary risks include large hail, damaging winds, and the possibility of tornadoes, particularly east of a line stretching from Salina to Kingman. Storms will remain a threat through Tuesday, with southern Kansas facing the heaviest rainfall and potential flooding.

Residents are advised to stay updated on the latest weather alerts and avoid travel when possible. Spotter activation is not expected today, but conditions may change rapidly.
