Wichita, Kansas – A mild start to August could turn stormy by Saturday night as parts of central Kansas, including Wichita, brace for rain and thunderstorms through Sunday.

According to the National Weather Service in Wichita, daytime highs will remain cooler than average through the weekend, hovering between 82°F and 87°F. However, storm chances are expected to increase late Saturday night, especially across central Kansas, and linger into Sunday with widespread showers and thunderstorms likely.

Wichita, Hutchinson, and Salina are among the cities likely to see rain late Saturday. Sunday’s highs will range from 80°F to 85°F, but frequent downpours may impact outdoor events and travel. Drivers should prepare for wet roads and occasional lightning, particularly on I-135 and U.S. 400.

With dry conditions returning Monday and highs in the low 80s, residents are advised to stay weather-aware this weekend and avoid flooded roads or lightning-prone activities during storms. Charge mobile devices and stay updated with local alerts.

Storm warnings remain possible through Sunday night as the system moves eastward.
