Wichita, Kansas – A blast of summer heat continues across Kansas this week, with highs soaring into the upper 90s and even 100 degrees in some areas through Friday, just ahead of scattered nighttime thunderstorms and a weekend cooldown.

According to the National Weather Service in Wichita, dry conditions will dominate Wednesday with temperatures ranging from 91 to 97 degrees. Central Kansas faces the hottest day on Thursday, as highs may reach 100, and a 40% chance of thunderstorms develops late at night. The risk of hit-or-miss storms expands areawide Friday night with a 50% chance of rain and localized downpours.

Wichita, Salina, Hutchinson, and McPherson could see brief heavy rain, lightning, and gusty winds after sunset Thursday and Friday. Most storms will stay scattered, but motorists are urged to watch for slick roads and brief street flooding, especially in low-lying areas. Power outages are possible where storms hit hardest.

Saturday brings some relief as highs dip into the mid-80s across southern Kansas, but a 30% chance of storms lingers into the night. Residents should stay weather-aware, keep phones charged, and avoid outdoor activities during storms.

Hot weather and occasional storms are expected to continue into the weekend, with additional updates likely as new advisories are issued.
