Wichita, Kan. – Kansas is bracing for one last surge of late-summer heat, with highs climbing into the mid-90s through Friday before storms bring a sharp cooldown over the weekend.

According to the National Weather Service in Wichita, highs today and Friday will push 90 to 95 degrees with warm overnight lows in the upper 60s. A shift arrives Saturday as isolated thunderstorms develop, holding highs closer to the upper 80s.

Sunday continues the storm chances, with scattered cells across south-central Kansas and temperatures slipping further into the low 80s. By Monday, widespread rain is likely, and highs are expected to top out only in the low to mid-70s — a near 20-degree drop from this week’s heat.

Travelers should watch for wet roads during the weekend, especially along I-35 and I-135 near Wichita and Hutchinson, where storms could slow down traffic. Residents are urged to stay weather-aware, secure outdoor items ahead of gusty winds, and keep phones charged in case of power outages.

Cooler, unsettled weather lingers into next week with more storm chances possible.
