Wichita, Kansas – A cool start to the week could bring some rumbles of thunder across Central and South-Central Kansas as isolated storms roll in Monday afternoon and linger through early Tuesday morning. Highs remain well below seasonal averages, topping out in the upper 70s to near 80.
According to the National Weather Service in Wichita, scattered showers and thunderstorms are expected Monday after 3 p.m., with a low-end risk for gusty winds and brief downpours across areas like Hutchinson, Winfield, and Emporia. Overnight lows will dip into the upper 50s to low 60s, making for a noticeably cooler night. By Tuesday morning, most storms should taper off, giving way to sunnier skies and warmer highs in the low 80s.
Localized impacts may include slick roads during Monday evening commutes, particularly along I-35 and US-400 corridors. Drivers should use caution if storms materialize. No severe weather is expected at this time.
Temperatures will gradually climb through midweek, with highs reaching the mid-80s by Wednesday, bringing a return to more typical late-summer warmth across the region.
Additional advisories may be issued if storm chances increase Monday afternoon.
