Wichita, KS – Kansans should prepare for a stormy stretch of weather beginning today, with isolated thunderstorms expected to continue through Tuesday before intensifying midweek.
According to the US National Weather Service in Wichita, storms developing today and Tuesday could bring gusty winds, small hail, and pockets of heavy rain. Forecasters caution that while these early storms may be scattered, the strongest cells could cause brief travel hazards.
By late Tuesday night, storm activity is expected to expand across much of Kansas, with a 60% chance of showers and thunderstorms forecast for both Wednesday and Thursday. Daytime highs will cool into the upper 70s and low 80s midweek after reaching the lower 90s early in the week. Overnight lows are expected to stay in the low to mid-60s.
The National Weather Service noted that off-and-on rain and thunderstorm chances may persist into the weekend, creating ongoing potential for wet roads, outdoor event disruptions, and localized flooding in heavier downpours.
Residents across Wichita, Sedgwick County, and the wider south-central Kansas region are encouraged to monitor forecasts and prepare for rapidly changing conditions, especially during evening commutes.
