Wichita, KS – A sharp temperature drop is on the way for Kansas this weekend as a strong cold front pushes across the state, bringing a mix of rain and possible wet snow by Saturday afternoon.
According to the National Weather Service in Wichita, rain showers are expected to develop Friday night and continue into Saturday morning. As colder air filters in, temperatures will begin to fall midday Saturday, setting up a brief window for a rain-to-snow transition—mainly across central and south-central Kansas.
Forecasters note that any snow accumulation is expected to be light, with the highest chances near Salina, Russell, and Great Bend, where probabilities range between 40–47%. Wichita’s chance of seeing a brief period of snow sits around 22%, while southern areas like Pratt and Harper remain mostly rain.
Highs will dip from the upper 40s and low 50s Friday to the upper 30s and 40s Saturday before plunging into the upper 20s to low 30s by Sunday. Lows are forecast to fall into the teens and low 20s, marking a much colder end to the weekend.
Residents are urged to prepare for slick spots and rapidly changing conditions Saturday afternoon and evening, especially on untreated roads.
