Wichita, KS – A wet and stormy stretch is on the way for much of Kansas beginning Thursday night, as widespread rain and scattered thunderstorms move across the state, according to the US National Weather Service Wichita.

Forecasters say showers will begin after 8 p.m. Thursday and continue through Saturday, with many areas expected to receive at least one inch of rainfall. Some locations in south-central and southeast Kansas — including Wichita, Winfield, and Emporia — could see even higher totals.

The National Weather Service warns of potential ponding in low-lying and poor-drainage areas due to heavy rainfall rates. While severe weather is not the main threat, isolated thunderstorms may produce brief gusty winds and lightning.

Before the rain arrives, Thursday will stay mild and partly cloudy with highs in the upper 60s to low 70s across the region. Conditions are expected to cool slightly over the weekend as the storm system moves through.

Residents are advised to monitor local forecasts and avoid driving across water-covered roads.
