Wichita, Kan. – A run of hot, sunny days in south-central Kansas will give way to thunderstorm chances late this weekend, bringing a shift from summerlike heat to unsettled skies by Sunday night.

According to the National Weather Service in Wichita, highs will climb into the low 90s Friday and Saturday under mostly sunny skies. Winds from the south could gust up to 21 mph Friday afternoon, adding to the heat. Overnight lows will remain warm, hovering near 70 degrees.

By Sunday, conditions turn less stable. Storm chances begin after 1 p.m. with the best risk of scattered thunderstorms late Sunday evening into early Monday. Forecasters note a 30 percent chance of showers and storms before 4 a.m. Monday, with heavy downpours and gusty winds possible.

Travelers along I-35 and I-135 should plan for changing road conditions, especially overnight Sunday when storms may roll through Sedgwick, Butler, and Harvey counties. Residents are advised to secure outdoor items and keep devices charged in case of brief power outages.

Skies will clear quickly after Monday, with highs staying in the upper 80s and another round of scattered storms likely by midweek.
