Wichita, Kan. – Thunderstorms are expected to roll into Kansas late Friday, bringing the threat of heavy rain and gusty winds into the weekend. Storm chances will stretch into next week, keeping roads wet and outdoor plans unsettled.

According to the National Weather Service in Wichita, storms could develop tonight across central and southern Kansas, with the best chances of rainfall arriving Sunday and Monday in southeast parts of the state. Afternoon highs will stay in the upper 70s to low 80s, but muggy conditions will add to the discomfort.

Cities including Wichita, Hutchinson, and Salina may see scattered rainfall through Saturday night, while Coffeyville, Chanute, and Independence could face stronger downpours early next week. Drivers should be cautious of slick highways, especially along I-35 and U.S. 400, where storms could limit visibility and lead to localized ponding.

Residents are encouraged to monitor local alerts, avoid outdoor activities during storms, and keep cell phones charged in case of power outages.

Storm chances are expected to continue into early next week, with additional advisories possible.
