Wichita, Kan. – Heavy rain and thunderstorms are expected to spread across central and south-central Kansas tonight and into Monday, with some areas west of I-135 already seeing isolated storms Sunday morning. Residents could face localized flooding where rainfall totals exceed an inch.

According to the National Weather Service in Wichita, the best chances for widespread storms will arrive late tonight, continuing through Monday across cities including Hutchinson, Wichita, and Winfield. Rainfall probabilities climb above 70 percent in Harper and Pratt counties, where totals over an inch are most likely.

Travelers should anticipate slick roads and reduced visibility on I-35 and U.S. 54 during the Monday morning commute. Outdoor events may be disrupted by lightning and heavy downpours, and emergency managers recommend avoiding low-lying areas prone to flooding.

Storm chances will diminish late Monday, but lingering showers could keep roads wet into the evening. Additional weather statements may be issued if rainfall rates intensify or storms become severe.
