WICHITA, Kan. – A cold start to December continues across Kansas, with temperatures dipping into the teens and low 20s Monday night before a short-lived warm-up Tuesday gives way to another blast of Arctic air midweek.

According to the National Weather Service in Wichita, overnight lows will fall to 15–20°F across central and southern Kansas, with slightly milder readings in southeastern counties. Tuesday will bring a quick rebound, as sunny skies push highs into the mid-40s to near 50°F—the warmest day of the week.

However, another strong cold front will sweep through late Tuesday night, sending temperatures tumbling again. By Wednesday, highs will only reach the upper 30s to mid-40s, followed by lows plunging into the teens and single digits by Thursday morning. Wind chills could drop into the lower teens during the early commute.

The National Weather Service advises residents to protect pets, outdoor plumbing, and sensitive plants. Drivers should also watch for patches of black ice on bridges and shaded roads early Wednesday. The extended outlook calls for continued below-normal temperatures into the weekend.
