Wichita, Kansas — A noticeable shift in the weather pattern is underway across south-central Kansas, bringing warmer temperatures and improving travel conditions after a brief round of light rain showers today.

According to the National Weather Service in Wichita, a few passing sprinkles or light rain showers are possible this afternoon across central, south-central, and southeast Kansas. Rainfall amounts are expected to remain light and no significant travel impacts are anticipated. Afternoon highs today will range from the low 40s to low 50s, keeping conditions cool but manageable on area roadways.

The bigger story arrives Thursday, as a strong warming trend spreads across the region. High temperatures are forecast to climb into the upper 50s and lower to mid-60s, marking a 15 to 20 degree increase compared to today. Sunshine will dominate the forecast, allowing roads and sidewalks to dry quickly and creating ideal conditions for travel and outdoor activities.

The warming trend continues into Friday and the weekend, with highs expected to remain in the 60 to 67 degree range through Sunday. Overnight lows will also moderate, reducing concerns for refreezing or slick spots during the early morning hours. No significant precipitation is expected from Thursday through the weekend, keeping conditions dry and favorable across the region.

Drivers may still encounter brief wet pavement today where light rain develops, but conditions will steadily improve heading into the evening. By Thursday morning, the region transitions fully into a dry, warmer weather pattern.

Residents are encouraged to enjoy the milder stretch while remaining weather-aware, as February temperature swings can occur quickly. For the latest updates and localized forecasts, visit weather.gov/wichita.
