Wichita, KS – Kansas skies could once again light up with the northern lights tonight, though a thin veil of high-level clouds may make the show a bit fainter than last night’s stunning display.
According to the US National Weather Service Wichita, temperatures will dip into the low to mid-40s across the region overnight with light winds and mostly calm conditions. Despite some scattered cirrus clouds, the aurora should remain faintly visible on the northern horizon, thanks to an ongoing G3–G4 geomagnetic storm reported by the NOAA Space Weather Prediction Center.
The best viewing opportunities will come between 9 p.m. and midnight, particularly in rural areas north of Wichita and Hutchinson, where cloud cover will be lighter. Observers are encouraged to look toward the northern sky away from city lights for the best chance to see a green or pink glow.
The mild weather pattern continues into Thursday, with highs returning to the mid-60s to near 70 before another warm, dry weekend.
