Kansas – Headlights glow through thick gray fog across Wichita this morning as visibility drops to about a quarter mile. Drivers along I-135, Kellogg Avenue, and Highway 54 are slowing down as dense patches linger through mid-morning.

According to the National Weather Service in Wichita, a Dense Fog Advisory remains in effect until 11 a.m. Visibility may briefly fall below 0.25 miles, especially near low-lying areas and river valleys. Officials urge commuters to slow down, increase following distance, and use low-beam headlights during the morning drive.

Once the fog lifts, clouds remain but temperatures climb quickly. Afternoon highs reach the mid-60s, bringing mild March air to south-central Kansas. A few scattered showers may develop late in the day, though most areas stay dry until evening.

Conditions shift later as moisture increases across the Plains. Showers and thunderstorms become likely after midnight and continue into early Friday. Roads could turn slick as steady rain moves through Wichita and surrounding communities like Derby, Andover, and Hutchinson.

Friday warms dramatically despite the rain threat. Temperatures surge near 72°F, with breezy south winds gusting above 30 mph. A few thunderstorms may develop during the afternoon before clouds gradually break later in the day.

The weekend turns quieter across Kansas. Sunshine returns Saturday with highs in the mid-50s. Even warmer air arrives Sunday as temperatures climb toward the mid-60s.

Early Sunday morning also marks the start of Daylight Saving Time, when clocks jump ahead one hour at 2 a.m. The extra evening daylight signals the growing push toward spring. By early next week, highs approach the upper 70s, hinting at the first real stretch of spring warmth.

Meteorologists say additional storm chances could return by midweek as a new system approaches the Plains.
