Wichita, Kan. – Gray skies stretch low across Sedgwick County this morning as damp streets glisten under a stiff northwest wind. The first big push of late-October chill is on the move across central Kansas, and with it comes a punch of blustery, dry air that will linger well into midweek.

According to the National Weather Service in Wichita, Tuesday begins wet but quickly turns breezy and cool. Showers will move east of the Kansas Turnpike by midday, leaving behind gusty northwest winds of 40 to 50 mph. Loose decorations, trash bins, and light outdoor furniture should be secured before noon, as conditions may become briefly hazardous for high-profile vehicles on I-35 and I-135.

By Wednesday morning, skies clear out across much of central and southern Kansas, but temperatures tumble sharply — only reaching the low 50s under bright sun. Winds will ease slightly, though gusts near 40 mph may persist through midday before calming in the afternoon.

Frost risk enters the picture late Wednesday night and again Friday night as lows dip into the mid-30s. Gardeners and growers across the Arkansas River Valley should plan to cover tender vegetation and shut off outdoor hoses.

Heading into the weekend, conditions stay dry and seasonal with highs near 60°F by Sunday — a brief, calm stretch before November’s chill begins to settle in for good.
