Wichita, Kan. – Morning commutes across Kansas may be soggy through Thursday as rounds of showers and thunderstorms continue to roll across the state. The National Weather Service warns drivers to prepare for wet roads and occasional lightning during the early hours.

According to the NWS Wichita office, rain chances are highest in northeastern and central Kansas, with Topeka facing a 70% chance of storms tonight. Emporia sits at 58%, while Wichita has about a 28% chance. Storms are most likely during the morning hours Tuesday through Thursday, but skies should clear by afternoon with highs climbing into the 80s and near 90 by late week.

Residents in Topeka, Emporia, and Eureka should be prepared for brief downpours that could slow traffic, especially on I-35 and Highway 54. While widespread flooding is not expected, low-lying areas could see ponding during heavier rainfall. The weather service advises limiting travel during storms and allowing extra time for morning drives.

By Thursday, temperatures rebound into the upper 80s to near 90, but morning storms may still linger. Additional advisories could be issued if storms intensify midweek.
