Wichita, KS – A major temperature swing is on the way for central and south-central Kansas, with highs near 68° Thursday followed by a sharp cooldown into the 30s by Sunday, according to the National Weather Service Wichita.
Forecasters say above-normal temperatures and breezy conditions will dominate through Thursday, giving residents a mild and sunny day before a cold front moves in Friday. The front will mark a clear pattern shift, dropping daytime highs into the 40s Friday and Saturday and even colder conditions by the weekend’s end.
“Many locations will see highs in the 60s Thursday before a significant cool-down begins Friday,” meteorologists said in Wednesday morning’s update. “By Sunday, highs may struggle to make it out of the 30s.”
The NWS also notes that while dry weather will continue through the weekend, gusty north winds may develop behind the front, making conditions feel even colder. Wind chills could dip into the 20s and upper teens by early Sunday morning.
Residents are advised to plan accordingly for outdoor activities, as the quick temperature drop may affect travel comfort and early morning commutes. No precipitation is expected at this time, keeping the region under a dry but breezy pattern through early next week.
