Wichita, Kansas – Extreme heat will continue baking Kansas through Saturday, with heat indices in central and southern parts of the state reaching up to 107°F. The high-pressure system dominating the region will give way to a cold front late Sunday, bringing cooler air and a higher chance of thunderstorms by Sunday night into early next week.

According to the National Weather Service in Wichita, afternoon highs will peak between 95 and 105°F through Saturday, making it dangerous for outdoor activity, particularly in cities like Wichita, Hutchinson, and Winfield. Overnight lows will offer little relief, staying in the mid to upper 70s. A shift begins Sunday evening, when a frontal boundary is expected to trigger thunderstorms, especially across southeast Kansas. Rain chances remain elevated into Monday.

Travelers and residents should limit time outdoors, stay hydrated, and check on vulnerable neighbors. Avoid strenuous activity during peak heating hours, and be prepared for possible lightning, strong winds, or localized flooding late Sunday into Monday.

Heat alerts may continue through Saturday, but new advisories could be issued as storm timing becomes clearer.
