Wichita, Kan. – Thunderstorms are expected to develop across Kansas between 11 a.m. and 9 p.m. Tuesday, bringing the potential for gusty winds, small hail, and locally heavy rainfall. Most locations will stay dry during the day, but storm coverage will expand later tonight.

According to the National Weather Service in Wichita, the greatest risk for storms during the afternoon will be in central and eastern Kansas, including cities such as Salina, Emporia, and Topeka. Wichita and Hutchinson could see storms push in after sunset as activity spreads east from the plains.

Isolated severe storms may produce damaging wind gusts and hail up to the size of quarters. Localized flooding is also possible where downpours set up, especially in low-lying areas and along smaller creeks. Drivers should watch for water pooling on roads during the evening commute.

The unsettled pattern will persist through Thursday night, with repeated rounds of showers and storms expected across the region. Residents are urged to monitor weather alerts and avoid unnecessary travel during heavy rain.
