Wichita, Kan. – Thunderstorms could develop across central and southern Kansas by Wednesday evening, bringing lightning and brief heavy rain before a cooler, drier air mass settles in for the second half of the week.

According to the National Weather Service in Wichita, afternoon highs will climb into the mid-80s on Wednesday ahead of the front, with showers and storms possible by evening. Some storms may reach into south-central counties including Sedgwick, Butler, and Cowley.

Drivers on I-35 and U.S. 54 should prepare for reduced visibility and slick roads during the evening commute Wednesday. Outdoor events in Wichita, Hutchinson, and Winfield could face delays or cancellations as the storms roll through.

Thursday will bring a noticeable change, with cooler, pleasant air holding highs in the mid-70s and overnight lows dipping into the low 50s. By Friday, another disturbance could spark isolated storms in southern Kansas, especially near the Oklahoma border.
