Wichita, Kan. – Scattered thunderstorms will continue across southeast Kansas through Wednesday, keeping temperatures below seasonal averages before hotter air moves in later this week. Some storms may produce brief heavy rain and lightning, though coverage will be more isolated compared to Monday’s widespread activity.

According to the National Weather Service in Wichita, highs will hold in the 80s through Tuesday, with lows in the upper 60s to near 70. By Thursday, readings will jump back into the mid-90s, pushing heat indices even higher for central and south-central Kansas.

The greatest storm chances will focus on areas south and east of Wichita, including Coffeyville, Parsons, and Independence, where occasional lightning and brief downpours may impact evening travel. Outdoor events in these areas should have weather safety plans ready.

Travelers should watch for wet pavement during morning commutes and avoid sheltering under trees during thunderstorms. Heat safety will also become a concern again by late week, with hydration and limited afternoon sun exposure recommended.

More updates are expected as storm coverage decreases and temperatures climb toward the weekend.
