Wichita, Kan. – Dangerous heat will persist across much of Kansas through the weekend, with high temperatures in the upper 90s to near 100 degrees and heat indices climbing to around 105. Breezy winds will offer little relief, and dry conditions will dominate until early next week.

According to the National Weather Service in Wichita, Russell, Pratt, and Harper could hit 100 degrees today, while Wichita and Hutchinson will see highs in the upper 90s. Saturday will remain hot, with highs between 96 and 101 degrees, and Sunday only slightly cooler, topping out in the upper 90s.

The combination of high heat and humidity will make prolonged outdoor activity dangerous. Residents are urged to limit time outside during peak afternoon hours, drink plenty of water, and check on vulnerable neighbors. Pets should have shaded shelter and fresh water at all times.

An isolated storm chance returns Monday, but temperatures will still range from 94 to 98 degrees before a potential break in the heat midweek.
